Power Only MovesPower Only Moves are a HUGE part of this industry. Either being much cheaper to tow a roadworthy unit vs hauling on a trailer, or units that are too large and would be cost prohibitive to load on a deck. Power only haulers range from using small 1/2 ton pickup trucks to tow bumper pull trailers up to 10000lbs, up to semi tractors pulling 150,000+ lbs fifth wheel units, and everything in between! Types of units good for power only moves include bumper pull trailers, 5th wheels large and small, pintle hitch electric or air brake (knowing your brake type is very important!), and gooseneck ball hitches. These round out your basic hitch types, if your trailer has something abnormal please make sure to let your associate know. |
Driveaways as Power OnlyDrivers with no truck or trailer still play a crucial role in trucking and transport. There are many units that are simply too big or tall to cost effectively load onto a trailer for transport. This is where the driveaway comes in, these drivers will fly, uber, catch a train, or hopefully book another unit to drive to their next assigned pickup.
Once on site they assess the vehicle for roadworthiness, and then get behind the wheel to drive to assigned destination. This method saves a great amount of money on some units when compared to the cost and permits of a deck loading. |
